Aunt of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson
Esther was born on the 30th of
October 1906, the eighth child and fifth daughter of
William Pallister Richardson and his wife Esther (nee
Howey).
Esther was named both for her mother and
for one of her older sisters who had been born in 1901
and died soon after birth
She was baptised when she was two weeks
old, on
November 14th 1906 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel in
Usworth and her baptism certificate says her father was
a miner and the family lived at 29, Railway Terrace in
Usworth Colliery Village.
On the 1911 census the family were
counted at 2 Manor View, New Washington. Esther was 4
years old and had two older sisters, May (8) and
Georgena (7), she also had a younger sister Margaret who
was 2 and a new baby brother William P. who was 3 weeks
old. Her mother Esther was 35 and her father William P.
was 38 and working as a hewer in the pit.
Esther's mother died in 1927 and her
father died in 1930.
On the 22nd of November 1933, at the
Methodist Jubilee Chapel, North Rd, Durham, Esther
married Joshua Walton. She was 26 years old and Joshua
was 30.
Esther was a Certified School Teacher and Joshua was a
Co-Operative Insurance Agent. Their witnesses were
Robert Walker and Margaret P Richardson ( Esther's
sister).
Esther and Joshua were to have three
children, Donald, Douglas and Janet.
Esther died on the 7th February 1962,
aged 55. Her death was registered in the West Ham
registration district.
Her funeral was on the 14th
February, followed by cremation at the City of London
Crematorium and she is remembered in their Book Of
Remembrance.
