Great Great Aunt of W.P.
'Bill' Richardson
Margaret was born in about 1841, in South Shields.
She was the sixth child of Thomas Richardson and his
wife Mary (nee Robinson).
By the time of the 1851 census the family were living in
Usworth Colliery Village. Margaret was 9 and was listed
on the census as a scholar. Her father Thomas (44) was a
Brickmaker and his wife Mary was 42.
It must have been quite a full house, Mam and Dad and
six of their children were living there, the children's
ages ranged from 20 to 17 months old and reading down
the list of their places of birth shows how the family
had moved around in that time.
On the 1861 census, Margaret was 19 and was 'living in'
at Strother House in Boldon where she was working as a
General Servant for the family of John Craggs who was a
farmer.
Further details for Margaret are proving very elusive.
Richardson was a fairly common name in that part of the
world. The only other definite record I have for her is
from the death certificate for Mary Richardson (her
mother) in 1885. That recorded that the death was
registered by:
Margaret Cook, Daughter. Present at the death, 57 Grange
Road, Jarrow.
Though as yet, I have been unable to trace a marriage
record for Margaret so I don't know who Mr Cook was.
