                        Son of  W.P. 'Bill'
                        Richardson's Great Uncle, Robert Richardson
                          Robert was born on
the 2nd April 1903, he was the only son of Robert
Richardon and his wife Sarah Ann (nee Purvis). His birth
was registered in the Chester le Street Registration
                        District.   He was
baptised on 22nd April 1903, when he was three weeks
old. His baptism was recorded in the Primitive Methodist
Register for Jarrow Circuit and the record says the
family lived at New Washington and that Robert's Dad was
a coal miner. The record also has a note that says 'P.,
Usworth', which I assume means he was baptised privately
when he was born and then received into the Methodist
faith on 22nd April. Perhaps he was premature or ill and
his parents were worried he may not survive. He
did survive though and was recorded on the census
of 1911, which was taken on the night of his 8th
birthday! The family lived at 13 Wood Terrace, New
Washington, Co. Durham and as well as 8 year old Robert,
the other members of the family were : Dad, Robert (33
and a hewer at the colliery), Mam, Sarah Ann (37),
sisters Esther (10) and Sarah Annie (8 months). Robert's
other sister, Doris, had sadly died in 1906, aged one.
On the 6th June 1927, Robert married Rowena Olive
Hackworth. Their marriage took place at Holy Trinity
Church, Usworth. Robert and Rowena were
to have three children, Robert; Amelia and Ken.
Robert's son, Ken, kindly sent this information about
his father: My Dad was out of work for
two years in the early {Nineteen} Thirties, he moved
down to Banbury in 1935 when the Northern Aluminium
Company opened a new factory and he like many other men
and their families moved down here from the north.
He worked there until he retired, he worked in the
                        inspection department checking the quality.
Robert's wife, Rowena died on 27th June 1973, she was 65
years old and her death was registered in the Banbury
                        Registration District. Robert died on
                        25th October 1981, he was 78.    |
