Sarah Isabella Howey
Annie was born on 21st January
1893. Her parents were Walter Potts and his wife Sarah
Isabella (nee Howey). She was born in Witton le Wear and
her birth was registered in the Auckland Registration
District.
She was baptised on 26th February at the
parish church in Witton le Wear.
The census of 1901 recorded her, aged 8,
at Witton le Wear. Her Dad, Walter, was 48 and working
as a Sanitary Pipe Maker, Her Mam, Sarah, was 38. Annie
had four sisters and a brother: Georgina (12), Mary
Eleanor (11), John (6), Esther (4) and Bertha (1).
By the time of the 1911 census, Annie
was 18. Her older sisters Georgina and Mary Eleanor had
left home and they were both working in service.
The family were still in Witton le Wear. Annie worked as
a 'day girl, domestic', her brother, John (16) was a
labourer at the brick yard, sisters Esther (14) and
Bertha (11) both attended school. Their Dad, Walter, was
58 and he worked as a labourer in the brick yard. Mam,
Sarah was 48. This census showed that there were two
more children in the family who had died very young,
these were Isabel (1891-1892) and George Walter
(1901-1904).
In the second quarter of 1918, Annie
married Percy Wilks. They were both 30 years old and
their marriage was registered in the Durham Registration
District.
Annie and Percy were to have four
children that I know of, Ruth (born 1918), Frank (born
1920), Annie (born (1921) and Herbert (born 1926).
Annie's husband, Percy, died in 1977 he
was 84 years old and his death was registered in the
Durham Western Registraton District.
Annie died in April 1985, she was 92
years old and her death was registered in the Durham
Western Registration District. |
