Annie was born in the first quarter of 1876, her parents were Stephen Hodgson and his wife Isabella and her birth was registered in the Gateshead Registration District.

Annie was 6 and listed as a scholar. She had a brother, John (10)  and two sisters Isabella (3) and Margaret (1).

Annie's father died in 1885.

She was recorded again in the 1891 census, still in Little Usworth, but now at 46 Colliery Square. Her Mam was listed as a 45 year old widow and she'd had more children in the time since the last census (at least one of them long after her husband had died).
Annie was 16 and the census return said she worked as a servant. Her brother John (20) was a Brakesman at the colliery. Her sisters Isabella (10) and Margaret (11) were scholars. Her new brothers were Heath (8), James (6) and Charles (3 months). There was also a boarder in the house, James Huntley (53) who was a stoneman at the colliery.

On 27th August 1896, Annie married James Howey at Usworth Parish Church. James was 20 and Annie was 21, he worked as a miner. Their witnesses were John Southern and Isabella Hodgson (Annie's sister).

The census of 1901 recorded them at Wash Houses , Birtley, Co. Durham. James was listed as the head of the household, he was 25 and working in the colliery. Annie was 26, her mother Isabella and her sister Margaret also lived there, along  three of her brothers, James, Heath and Charles.

Annie and James had a son in 1902, Stephen Hodgson Howey, named for his maternal grandfather. Sadly he died soon after birth.

Their second son Thomas was born in 1904.

Annie and her family were recorded on the 1911 census. They lived at 11 Westgarth Terrace, New Washington. Annie was 36 and her husband James was 33, he was still working in the colliery. Their son Thomas was 6.

Annie had her last child, who they also called Annie, on 26th July 1915, They were living at 25 Front Street.

There must have been problems with the birth as though the baby was fine, Annie died a few weeks later on 19th August 1915. She was 40 years old.

Annie was buried at Holy Trinity, Usworth on 22nd August 1915, the record in the parish register shows that the family's address was 25 Frnt Street.
