George was born on
27th May 1910, he was the first child of
James Gilliland and his wife Catherine (nee
Gray). His birth was registered in the Chester le Street
Registration District. The census of 1911
recorded George as aged 10 months. The family lived at
69 Mitchell Street in Birtley, Co. Durham. His Dad,
James, was 44 and a Political Registrations Agent. Mam,
Catherine, was 30. George had three step brothers and a
step sister from his Dad's first marriage.
In the second quarter of 1950, George married Blanche
Margaret Dobbing. Their marriage was registered in the
Newcastle on Tyne Registration District. George was 40
and Blanche was 55. George died in the
second quarter of 1976, he was 66 years old and his
death was registered in the Durham Central Registration
