Edith was born on
16th December 1891, she was the third child and only
daughter of Harry Doyle Cotton and his wife Mary (nee
Lee). Her birth was registered in the Greenwich
Registration District. The 1901 census
recorded her, aged 9, at the family home in Erlanger
Road, Deptford. Edith's father and Harry, one of her
brothers were not at home for the night of the census,
but her mother Mary, was recorded as being 37 and a
teacher at a Board School, her other brother John (11)
was also recorded. Edith's brother,
Harry, died at the age of 14 in 1902.
The 1911 census showed the family still in Erlanger
Road. This time her Dad, Harry, was home for the census
and he was 45 and listed as a wool expert and valuer,
her Mam, Mary, was 47 and a certificated school
mistress. Edith was recorded as 19 and a student at
Goldsmiths College. On 3rd July 1924,
Edith married Barry B Connell, their marriage was
registered in the Barnet Registration District.
Edith and Barry had two children, Norman (born 1917) and
Graham (born 1920). Edith's husband,
Barry died on 8th December 1953, he was 69 years old.
Edith died on 12th January 1954, she was 62 and her
death was registered in the Exeter Registration
District. |
