Daughter of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Aunt, Annie
Lee
Mabel was born on
14th May 1891, the second child and only daughter of
Thomas Ellison and his wife Annie (nee Lee).
She was baptised on 3rd June 1891 and her baptism was
recorded in the Methodist Register for Wolsingham &
Others Circuit, Durham. The record says that the family
lived at Sunniside and her father was an assistant
schoolmaster. The 1901 census recorded the
family living at Milburn Street, Crook , Co. Durham.
Mabel was 9. Her Dad was 35 and a school teacher and her
Mam was also 35. Mabel had three brothers, Stephen (born
1890) Sydney (born 1892) and Edwin (born 1897).
Sadness for the family when Mabel's brother Sydney died
in 1903, aged 10 and more sadness two years later when
Annie, their Mam died in 1905, she was 40.
The census of 1911 recorded the family, still in Milburn
Street. Thomas, Mabel's Dad was 45 and listed as a
school master, her brother Stephen was 21 and a student
teacher, her younger brother Edwin was 13 and still at
school.
Mabel was 19, there was no occupation listed for her on
the census. She was only 14 when her Mam died,
but no doubt she ran the house, did the washing, made
the meals and generally looked after her Dad and
brothers. In 1912, Mabel married Robert E
Foster, their marriage was registered in the Auckland
Registration District. I do not yet have
a record of Mabel's death. |
