Daughter of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Great Uncle, Thomas
                        RIchardson
                          Elizabeth Ellen
was born on 23rd May 1875, though I haven't yet narrowed
down her birth registration. She was the second child of
Thomas Richardson and his wife Hannah (nee Wilson).
She was baptised on 12th September 1875 and her baptism
was recorded in the Primitive Methodist Baptism Register
for South Shields Circuit, the entry says that the
family lived at Hebburn Colliery, Jarrow and her father
                        worked as a Watchman.
The first census she appeared on was the 1881. She was 5
years old and the family were living at North St.,
Jarrow. Dad, Thomas, was 40 and worked as an
brakesman/steam hammerman. Mam, Hannah, was 31.
Elizabeth had an older sister, Hanah Mary, who was 8.
Her maternal grandmother  Hannah (another!), who
was 69 lived with them and they had two lodgers Daniel
Commersale and Thomas Gillespy. By the
time of the 1891 census Elizabeth was 16 and worked as a
domestic servant, so did her sister Hannah Mary (18).
Their Dad was 53 and worked as an engineman, Mam was
                        41. They had lodgers, different ones to the last census,
John Harrison (55) was a coal miner and George William
Lamb was 18 and a crane driver. George and Elizabeth's
sister, Hannah, married a few months later.
In the second quarter of 1894, Elizabeth married John
William Lawson, their marriage was registered in the
                        South Shields Registration District. The
couple were recorded on the 1901 census living at 18
Waggonman's Road, Hebburn. Elizabeth was 25 and John was
27, he worked as a coal miner - hewer. They had four
                        children: David (6), Mary (4), Thomas (2) and John W. (1
month). Elizabeth's sister in law, also called
Elizabeth, was recorded in the house. On
the 1911 census, Elizabeth was recorded as being 35. Her
husband, John was 36 and working at the mine. The census
form stated that they had been married for 17 years and
in that time they'd had six children all of whom were
still alive. All six children lived at home. David
                        (17) worked as a colliery labourer (above ground), Mary
                        (14) had no occupation listed, Thomas (12), John William
                        (10) and Elizabeth Annie (8) were all scholars and the
baby was Matthew (1). I do not yet know
                        when Elizabeth died. |
