Daughter
of W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Great Aunt, Jane Howey
Esther was the
second child of Thomas Rochester and his wife Jane (nee
Howey). She was born in the second quarter of 1880 and
her birth was registered in the Alnwick Registration
District. The census of 1881 recorded the
family at Refuge Cottage, Titlington, Northumberland.
Esther was 11 months old and had an older brother,
Robert, who was 2. Their Dad, Thomas (41) was an
agricultural labourer , Mam, Jane, was 35. Her maternal
Grandfather, Adam Howey (78), lived with them.
The family remained at Refuge Cottage and the 1891
census recorded them there. Esther was 10 and the other
children were Robert (12), Grace (8), Jane Ann (5),
Elizabeth (3) and Thomas (2 months). All but the two
youngest children attended school. By the
time of the 1901 census Esther was 21 and working for
her living. She was recorded at Guyzance, Northumberland
working as a cook for a Mr Andrew Park, a who had a boot
and drapery shop. Mr Park was a widower with six grown
up children so I am sure she had to work hard to feed
them all. In the last quarter of 1901,
Esther married Robert Wilson. Esther was 21 and Robert
was 28 and their marriage was registered in the Alnwick
Registration District. They were living
at Budle, Bamburgh, Northumberland when the 1911 census
was taken. Esther was 30 and Robert was 38, his
occupation was rabbit catcher. Robert completed and
signed the census form and stated that they had been
married for 9 years and in that time they'd had three
children who were all recorded in the house. Jane Howey
Wilson (8), John Wilson (5) and Grace Wilson (5 months).
I do not yet know when Esther died. |
