Aunt of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson
Born on the 10th May 1902, May
was the sixth child and third daughter of William
Pallister Richardson and his wife Esther (nee Howey).
She was baptised on 10th June 1902 and her baptism
was recorded in the Priitive Methodist Register for
Jarrow Circuit which gave the family's address as 29
Railway Terrace, Usworth Colliery and showed that her
father was a coal miner.
Her five older siblings had, very sadly, died soon
after birth and May was the first of the children to
survive. Though they would still have grieved for the
children they had lost, William and Esther must have
been overjoyed at the arrival of their healthy and
thriving daughter.
May was recorded on the 1911 census, with the rest of
her family at 2 Manor View, New Washington. She was 8
years old. Her father was
38 and working as a hewer in the pit and her mother was
35. May had three younger sisters, Georgena (7), Esther
(4) and Margaret (2) and a very new baby brother,
William who was only three weeks old.
On 5th November 1928, she married Anthony 'Art'
Robson at the Primitive Methodist Jubilee Chapel,
Durham. May was 26 and Anthony was 28, his occupation
was Property Repairer. Their witnesses were the groom's
brother, John Herbert Robson, and the bride's sister,
Margaret Pallister Richardson.
May and Art had two children, John Anthony (born in
1930) and
Esther May (born in 1932).
May died on 5th August 1976, aged 74. Her death was
registered in the North Tyneside registration district
and her cremation took place at Whitley Bay Crematorium.
