The fourth child of Matthew Lee, a coal miner, and his wife Catherine
(nee Walton). Thomas was born at Crook in the first
quarter of 1867.
Thomas was baptised on 16th May 1867, his baptism was
recorded in the Register of Crook Methodist Circuit.
He was recorded on the 1871 census, aged 4 at
Sunniside, Crook & Billy Row, Co. Durham along with his
parents, sister Mary and two brothers John and
Matthew.
The 1881 census recorded the family living in
Gladstone Terrace, Crook and Billy Row. Thomas was 14
and working as a coal miner. In addition to the brothers
and sister that were on the previous census, he had two
other, younger, sisters, Sarah and Ada Isabel.
In the 1891 census, Thomas was recorded in the family
home at Gladstone Terrace, Crook. He was 24 years old
and a coal miner like his Dad.
On the 13th April 1894, Thomas married Alice
Augusta C. Dawson at the Auckland Register Office.
Thomas was 27 and Alice was 25. Their witnesses were
Timothy Blair and Sarah Lee (Thomas's sister).
The couple lived at 13, Victoria Street in Crook, but
very sadly their happiness was quite shortlived as
Thomas died on the 3rd of November 1896. The cause of
death was given as Phthisis Pulmonalis and his death was registered by his father in law, John Dawson.
Thomas was buried at Crook Cemetery on the 7th November
1896, the burial service was performed by J Michael.
