Great Great Uncle of W.P.
'Bill' Richardson
John was born in 1846, at Allenheads, Northumberland. He
was the fourth child of Matthew Lee and his wife Mary
Thirza (nee Robson)
He was baptised on the 27th September 1846 at St Peter
and Allenheads Chapel, Allendale
By the time of the 1851 census, the family had moved
from Allendale to Crook in County Durham. They were
living at number 27 Peases West Cottages and John's
father was working as a coal miner. John was recorded as
being 5 years old.
The family were still at Peases Cottages on the 1861
census, John was 15 and though there was no occupation
listed for him, I imagine he worked in the pit like his
Dad.
On the 1871 census, John was 25 working as a coal miner
and living with his parents now in High Hope Street in
Crook.
John's father died in 1878 and John registered his
death, his address was given as that of his parents, 37
High Hope Street in Crook.
I have not yet been able to find a definite record of
John after 1878.
