Son of  W.P. 'Bill' 
                        Richardson's Great Uncle, John Robinson Richardson
                          Alan was born in 
                        the first quarter of 1915, he was the fourth child of 
                        John Robinson Richardson and his wife Elizabeth Ann ( 
                        nee Mullier). His birth was registered in the Chester le 
                        St. Registration District. In the third 
                        quarter of 1942, Alan married Edith Price. Their 
                        marriage was registered in the Durham Northern 
                        Registration District. They were to have a daughter, 
                        Carol, in 1944. Alan was in the Navy 
                        during the war, he was an Able Seaman and served on 
                        H.M.S. Boadicea.  On the 13th June 1944, 
                        Alan was killed on active service.   
                        The Boadicea was sunk off Portland Bill, Dorset, by two 
                        torpedoes launched from a German Junker 88 aircraft. The 
                        Boadicea was operating ahead of Convoy EBC-8 on its way 
                        to Normandy. One torpedo struck near the forward 
                        magazine causing it to explode. The other exploded in 
                        its wake. Nine officers, including the captain Lt. Cdr. 
                        F.W. Hawkins, and 166 ratings died. There were only 12 
                        survivors.

                        he is also remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial.  |
