(1899  -  ?)

Son of  W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Uncle, David Gilliland

James William  was the second child of David Gilliland and his wife Lily (nee Johnson). He was born in the first quarter of 1899 at Albion Street, Tow Law and his birth was registered in the Weardale Registration District.

The census of 1901 recorded his family at 35, Gooches Row, Burnopfield. 'Willie' was 2 years old. His Mam was 25 and his Dad was 28, he worked as a hewer at the pit. James William had two sisters Minnie (4) and  Elizabeth Jane (2 months).

The 1911 census showed that the family were living at Flag Row, Sunniside.  James William was 12, and listed as being at school. His Dad was 37 and still working at the pit, his Mam was 34.  As well as Minnie (14) and Elizabeth (11), there were two more children. The new arrivals were Lily (6) and Mabel (3).

James' Dad died in 1913.

At the moment,  I have no further information about James.
