Daughter of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Uncle, David Gilliland
Elizabeth Jane was
born in the first quarter of 1901, she was the third
child of David Gilliland and his wife Lily (nee
Johnson). She was born at Lintz Green Colliery,
Burnopfield and her birth was
registered in the Lanchester Registration District.
Elizabeth was recorded on the 1901
census, aged 2 months. The family lived at 35 Gooches
Row, Burnopfield. Her Dad, David, was a miner. The
census recorded that she had a brother 'Willie' (James
WIlliam) who was 2 and a sister, Minnie, who was 4.
When the 1911 census was taken,
Elizabeth was 11 and was listed as being at school. The
family lived at Flag Row, Sunniside. Her Mam. Lily, was
34 and her Dad, David, was 37. He worked as a hewer in
the pit. The family had grown since the last census, as
well as Minnie (14), James William (12) and
Elizabeth (11), there were two more children. The new
arrivals were Lily (6) and Mabel (3).
Elizabeth's Dad died in 1913.
