Daughter of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Uncle, David Gilliland
Lily was
born in the second quarter of 1904, at Lintz Green
Colliery, Burnopfield and she was the fifth
child of David Gilliland and his wife Lily (nee
Johnson). Her birth was
registered in the Lanchester Registration District.
When the 1911 census was taken,
Lily was 6 and was listed as being at school. The
family lived at Flag Row, Sunniside. Her Mam, Lily, was
34 and her Dad, David, was 37. He worked as a hewer in
the pit. She had a brother and three sisters, Minnie (14), James William (12), Elizabeth (11) and Mabel (3).
Lily's Dad died in 1913, when she was
just 8.
