Daughter of
W.P. 'Bill' Richardson's Great Uncle, David Gilliland
Mabel was
born in the second quarter of 1907 at Flag Row,
Sunniside, she was the sixth
child of David Gilliland and his wife Lily (nee
Johnson). Her birth was
registered in the Auckland Registration District.
When the 1911 census was taken,
Mabel was 3. The
family still lived at Flag Row, Sunniside. Her Mam, Lily, was
34 and her Dad, David, was 37. He worked as a hewer in
the pit. She had a brother and three sisters, Minnie (14), James William (12), Elizabeth (11) and Lily (6).
Mabel's Dad died in 1913, when she was
just 5.
