Thomas was born in
the second quarter of 1843 and his birth was registered
in the Durham &c Registration District. His parents were
Thomas Oliver and his wife Hannah (nee Dove).
He was recorded on the census of 1851
aged 8. The family lived in Chester le St and Thomas's
Dad was a coal miner. Thomas had a sister Elizabeth (4)
and a brother William (1).
By the time of the 1861 census the
family were living at 139 Alma Row, Usworth. Thomas was
18 and worked as a coal miner. His Dad was 52 and his
Mam was 42. His brothers and sisters were : Elizabeth
(14), William (11), Hannah (9), Barbery (7), Henry (4)
and Ralph (2).
In the third quarter of 1867 Thomas
married Mary Ann Richardson. Thomas was 28 and Mary Ann
was 29, their marriage was registered in the South
Shields Registration District.
They were recorded on the census of
1871, living at 144 Alma Terrace, Usworth. Thomas was 28
years old and worked as a miner, Mary Ann was 33. There
was a child recorded in the house, George W Richardson
(11), who was Mary Ann's son from before her marriage,
he was recorded as Thomas' step son.
By the time of the 1881 census, they
were living at Quarrington Hill, Coxhoe, Co. Durham.
Thomas was 38 and still working as a miner, Mary Ann was
43. Mary Ann's son George was not listed in the house.
Thomas's sister Hannah (now married and Hannah Shipley)
was recorded with them.
I have not yet found a definite record
of Thomas after the 1881 census. |
