                        John Howey
                          John George was 
                        born on 30th July 1878.  He was the son of John Howey and his 
                        wife Eleanor (nee Bell) and his birth was registered in 
                        the Tynemouth Registration District. He 
                        was baptised at Christ Church, Tynemouth on 1st 
                        September 1878. The entry in the baptism register shows 
                        that the family lived at Bedford Street and that John's 
                        Dad worked as a labourer. At 
                        the time of the 1881 census, he was 2 years old. The 
                        family were recorded at West Percy St., Tynemouth. Dad, 
                        John was 38 and worked as a labourer, Mam. Eleanor was 
                        39.  John had a brother, Joseph (3), and four 
                        sisters : Annie Mary (10), Esther (7), Sarah Jane (5) 
                        and Louisa (11months). John's brother, 
                        Joseph, died in 1884, aged 6. The 1891 
                        census showed that the family were at Bedford St., 
                        Tynemouth. John George was 12 and listed as a scholar, 
                        the other children listed were : Esther (17), Sarah (15) 
                        and Louisa (10). Their Mam, Eleanor, was 49 and their 
                        Dad, John, was 48 - he worked as a furnaceman. 
                        So far, I have been unable to find a definite record of 
                        John George after the 1891 census.  |
