Richardson's Great Great Uncle, Hugh Gilliland
I do not yet know
anything about Jane's early life. She was born in about
1842 but I haven't been able to find definite records
for her on census returns. In the second
quarter of 1881, Jane married Hugh Gilliland, a miner
who was originally from Ireland. Hugh was a widower who
had three children. Jane was 39 and Hugh was 38 and
their marriage was registered in the Houghton le Spring
Registration District. They were recorded
on the census of 1891 living at Main Street, West
Rainton. Jane was 49, her husband, Hugh, was 48
and worked as a coal miner. Hugh's children lived with
them, James (27) was a colliery clerk, William (25) was
an assistant certificated schoolmaster and Margaret (14)
was a pupil teacher. Jane died in the
second quarter of 1898, she was 60 years old and her
death was registered in the Sedgefield Registration
Disrict. |
