Robert was born in
the second quarter of 1863 and his birth was registered
in the Auckland Registration District. His parents were
William Turner and his wife Sarah (nee Lee).
He was recorded on the census of 1871 aged 8 and lived
with his family at Moor Roddy Row, Crook and Billy Row,
Co. Durham. His Dad, William, was 35 and worked as a
miner, his Mam, Sarah was 36. Robert had two sisters,
Isabella (14) and Mary Ellen (10).
Robert's mother, Sarah, died in 1875 when Robert was 12.
By the time of the 1881 census Robert was working as a
coal miner. He was 17 years old and lived with his Dad,
William (45) and his sister Mary Ellen (20) at Long Row,
Middlestone, Co. Durham. Robert died in
the last quarter of 1881, he was 18 years old. |
