Great Grandmother  of W.P. 'Bill' Richardson

Georgiana was born on the 11th of June 1841, the fourth child of George Turnbull and his wife Isabella.

She was baptised in the parish church in Whittingham in Northumberland on the 18th July 1841 and the baptismal record says her father was a miller.

In 1851 the family were recorded on the census living at Waterside House in Guyzance in Northumberland and Georgiana was listed as being ten years old and a scholar. She had three sisters and two brothers and along with her parents, her 81 year old Grandfather, Jacob, was also living in the house.

By the time of the 1861 census, the family had moved to Shawdon Woodhouse in Northumberland but Georgiana was not recorded in the family home. She was back in Guyzance with her younger sister Isabella, visiting her brother Jacob.

On the 7th December 1861 Georgiana married Thomas Howey, a farm labourer, at the Register office in Alnwick. They were both 21 years old. Their witnesses were Jacob Turnbull (Georgiana's brother) and Esther Howey (Thomas's sister).

By 1862 Georgiana and Thomas had moved to Co. Durham and their first child, Sarah Isabella, was born in Chester le Street.

By 1867 they had moved again and were living in Usworth when their second child, John Thomas, was born.

The 1871 census recorded that the family were living in Great Usworth Village. Georgiana was listed on the census return as 'Ann' aged 29. Perhap the enumerator made an error when writing up the return or maybe 'Ann' was used as a diminutive of her name.

Georgiana had three more children, George arrived in 1871, followed by Esther, who was born on 30th June 1875 and finally James who was born in 1877. There may have been more children, at that time so many were born and did not survive long but I can't find any definite record of others.

When the 1881 census was taken Georgiana was 39, her husband Thomas was working in the mine as a weighman and the four youngest children were still at home.

On the 1891 census Georgiana was 49 years old and her husband Thomas was 50. Only the three youngest of their children were still living with them

Her husband Thomas died in 1893, aged 53.

Georgiana died on 23rd April 1896 aged 54 at Railway Terrace in Usworth. Her death was registered by her son, James and there was a notice of her death and funeral arrangements in the Newcastle Chronicle on the 24th April.  She was buried on Sunday 26th April 1896 at Holy Trinity Church, Usworth.
